KYRGYZ National University (KNU)
Kyrgyzstan, Officially known as the Kyrgyz Republic, is a Beautiful country in Central Asia. lying in the Tian Shan and Pamir mountain ranges. Because of Its Natural beauty, Landscapes, mountains, and lakes, it is also called as ‘Switzerland of Central Asin”. Bishkek is the capital and largest city of the country. Kyrgyzstan is bordered by Kazakhstan to the north, Uzbekistan to the west, Tajikistan to the south, and China to the east and southeast.

Kyrgyzstan has been at the crossroads of several great civilizations as part of the Silk Road and other commercial routes. Kyrgyzstan is a member of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Eurasian Economic Union, the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the Organisation of Turkic States, and the United Nations result-Kul Lake, in the north-cistern region, is the largest lake in Kyrgyzstan and the second largest mountain lake in the world The climate varies regionally. KNU History - Since 1925
The history of Kyrgyz National University traces back to 1932 when the Kirghiz State Pedagogical Institute was established. Originally, it aimed to meet the demand for university educators in the Kyrgyz Republic. Later, in 1951, the institute evolved into the Kyrgyz State University, founded in Frunze. Over the years, it underwent several name changes, including being named after the 50th anniversary of the USSR in 1972. In 1993, it transformed into the Kyrgyz State National University and eventually gained the status of “National” in 2002, becoming the Kyrgyz National University named after J. Balasagyn.
Milestones
• Since October 20, 1989 KNU has been a member of Eurasian Association of Universities.
• On September 16, 2011 the Rector of KNU signed the Great Charter of Universities in Bologna.
• On June 30, 2012 KNU became a member of the Association of Asian Universities.
• Since November 8, 2013 KNU has been a member of the International Consortium of Rectors and Presidents of universities and Higher Education Institutions on the basis of the International Network of Universities and Higher Education Institutions.
• Since November 22, 2013 KNU named after. J. Balasagyna is a member of the Association of Universities of Turkic Speaking Countries.
• In 2014, KNU joined the Association of Higher Educational Institutions of the Kyrgyz Republic.
• In 2023 The President of the Kyrgyz Republic granted special status for Kyrgyz National University.
International Joint Projects
The university has signed agreements with various international projects and organizations, such as ISTC, INTAS, IREKS, and TEMPUS, to promote educational and scientific cooperation These agreements facilitate collaboration with over 50 renowned foreign universities, centers, and international programs in Europe, the United States, and Canada. Additionally, the university actively participates in university associations of developed countries, including Eurasian and Lingua-UNI. It is also a member of the Consortium of CIS universities network, the Eurasian Association of Universities, and the Universities of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. As a result, graduates of KNU have the opportunity to pursue studies abroad through the mentioned projects and initiatives.
